Intercambio Peru is currently implementing a Project to improve the living conditions of blind people and people with visual disabilities in the department of Huancavelica.
 The project is being financed by The Gelderse Blinden Stichting, a Dutch foundation.
The trained teachers have just come back from the remote districts of Huancavelica where they have taught children and adults basic techniques to facilitate their daily lives.

In 2006 Intercambio Peru has helped in a number of cases to support school going children in especially difficult circumstances, like orphans and neglected children. In 2007 we wish to continue these activities, but in a more structural and coordinated way. We already received 50 euros for the support of one child, and are hoping to receive more donations. For 50 euros a child can receive one meal a day during the entire year, and besides receive a number of school materials. We hope you can contribute!

With the participation of the University for Andean Development and the primary school “Corazon de Jesus”, we are carrying out a project on Biodiversity. The project aims at raising awareness among youths about the importance and ongoing loss of biodiversity on this planet. To visualize the aspect of biodiversity we use a large amount of different and rare pea varieties. Each schoolboy and girl receive 10 seeds of a specific pea variety that they plant and monitor. The results of each pupil are shared with pupils from other schools across the globe. The project is coordinated by “The Court of Eden” in The Netherlands.
  

In one of the poorest regions of Latin America it is often heartbreaking to see the conditions in which the disabled, as a marginalized group, have to live. In close coordination with the provincial municipality and the Disabled Association of Lircay we are writing a project, and looking for financial support for the construction of a disabled centre to alleviate the most urgent needs.

We are continuing with the improvement of the volunteering services we offer. During the month of July one of the main cultural events of the year in the town of Lircay takes place; the exuberant two-week celebration of the patron saint “Virgin del Carmen”, truly a unique and unforgettable experience.
