What are the costs and why?
The cost of your stay in Lircay are estimated at US $10 to US $15 a day, depending on the activities you want to take part in. This price would include your language course or lessons, your accommodation + two meals a day, most of the local transport and a small contribution to our partners that offer the opportunity and support to take you along with them.
Seeing as you are prepared to lend a helping hand we would have liked to offer the volunteering work free of charge. However, because our partners also have additional expenses, and in general have very limited financial resources, it is important to give some support for logistical purposes, seeds and materials etc. PRONAMACHCS is unique in their field of work that implies such a close cooperation between the comunidades and their professionals, and we try to support that.
The small margin that is left we use to finance local projects like for instance the realization of a centre for handicapped people and the donation of school materials for primary schools in the poorest areas. We would like to emphasize the fact that Intercambioperu is a foundation and therefore a non-profit organization. Each additional dollar we make is for the benefit of the projects we support.
Note: Life in Peru is a lot cheaper than in other parts of the world. For as little as US $1,00 you can get a meal, and a “collectivo” taxi will also take you a couple of kilometers for the same amount. There is a direct buss service between Lima and Lircay costing about US $9,00
